If you’ve read through some of my other posts already you may notice a few of these already therefore I wont go into deep detail describing the look of the tree but instead will give you a quick overview on the fruit and the zones they grow in.

Being one of the more expensive date palms for sale, they’re not the best tree if you are working on a budget however if money isn’t a concern this tree will not just produce tasty fruits but will let others know you went for the best of the best with your landscaping project.

Date palms for sale The fruit of the Senegal Date Palm is edible. It is round with an orange color that measures 1/2 inch to 1 inch in diameter. The heart of the palm can be eaten and the sap harvested for syrup or palm wine.

The Canary Island Date palm also referred to as the Canary Date Palm, Canary Island Palm, Pineapple Palm, or simply the Canary Palm is very distinct due to its pineapple like structure on the trunk as it matures. As the tree gets older it will form a knot like structure below the crown.

The leaves on the Canary Island Date palm are feathery and plentiful, arching upward then outward to create a ‘geyser’ looking display. These palms are one of the larger known old hardy palms being able to sustain temperatures as low as 15°F.

The fruit is a yellow-orange color with an oval shape about 3/4″ long. The flesh on these dates is very sweet though it is also very thing therefore it requires a lot of work to get minimal amounts of the fruit’s meat. Because of this most use these dates to make jelly.

The sap is of the Canary Island Date palm is very sweet and can be drank as is, fermented into a wine, or evaporated down to palm syrup or sugar.

The Sylvester Date Palm (Also referred to as: Sugar Date Palm, India Date Palm, Silver Date Palm, or Wild Date Palm) is commonly seen on golf courses or in front of large houses due to their ability to reach up to 60′ tall.

Much like the Canary Island Date palm the Sylvester Date Palm also has a crown made up of greenish-silver feathery fronds that shoot up and outward creating a nice arched looking leaf. The trunk is covered in diamond scales where older fronds fall off (more likely pruned).

The Sylvester Date Palm is very hardy to not only cold temperatures but also heat waves making it a tough tree that can handle various elements and conditions.

The Medjool Date Palm is a magnificent looking tree that goes well with numerous landscape designs. It also goes by any of the following names: True Date, Phoenix Medjool Date, Jewel Palm, or the Medjewel Palm.

The date fruits produced by the Medjool Palm are probably the most popular types of dates for consumption in the US. They are often referred to as the “crown jewel of dates” due to their sweet and soft taste and texture. Historically finding Medjool date palms for sale was a difficult task since the Medjool date was once reserved only for royalty due to their succulent taste and rarity.

The trunk is singular, up to 15″ in diameter, and has leaf scars creating diamond-shaped patterns all the way up the trunk. The canopy is thick, v-shaped, and made up of 100+ fronds with greenish-gray feather like leaves. You can expect the Medjool Date Palm to produce fruits at least 2 times a year once it reaches maturity.

The Pygmy Date Palm would be for the latter, with a mature height of 10′ no need for a lift to reach the fruits of these trees.

This Pygmy Date Palm, also referred to as the Miniature Date Palm, is perfect for those with smaller gardens or maybe even someone looking to have it inside in a planter (as long as your ceilings are high enough). They look great when planted outside in groupings as opposed to by themselves.

This cold hardy palm has a single trunk (though can be planted to clump) with leaf scars that form as you remove the old leaves (it isn’t self-cleaning). The crown is filled with vibrant green leaves that are made up of numerous smaller sharp leaflets.

The Pygmy Date Palm is susceptible to Potassium and Magnesium deficiency and doesn’t hold up well when exposed to salt water/spray. It is best grown in areas with well drained soil.

Date palms for sale Dates are 1/2″ long, elliptical shaped, and grow in large hanging clusters. The turn dark purple when ripe though unfortunately there isn’t much flesh on the dates since the majority of the fruit is filled with the seed.

Date Fruit Recipes

Aside from the common method of eating dates which is simply removing the pit and eating them raw there are a few different ways to spice up the date or to incorporate it into a meal.

Whether you’re buying dates from the store or came here to find the best date palms for sale to start your own backyard garden, below are a few date recipes that allow you to incorporate these into various meals.

Each of the following recipes were taken from various websites around the web so I have to give credit to each site below the recipe title. Make sure you check them out as well!

Date and Peanut Butter Slices

Ingredients
– 16 pitted medjool dates
– 1 cup raw cashews
– 1/2 cup unsalted peanut butter
– 2-3 tbsp cacao powder
– 1-2 tbsp maple syrup for sweetness
– 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
– 1 tbsp coconut oil

  1. Combine all ingredients in a food processor and mix until it turns to a sticky dough-like consistency. Add water or coconut oil to achieve the right consistency.
  2. Press into a lined  8″x 6″ (or close to that size) pan and refrigerate for 1-2 hours, or until firm.
  3. Slice an eat when ready!

Broiled Dates ‘N Bacon

Ingredients (1 serving)
– 6 pitted medjool dates
– 6 bacon strips
– 6 water chestnuts

  1. Place a piece of water chestnut inside dates
  2. Slice bacon in lengths that are long enough to wrap around the dates
  3. Wrap dates in bacon and place a toothpick through them to hold together
  4. Place under medium broiler
  5. Rotate and cook on each side until bacon is crisp
  6. Drain well and serve warm

Date Nut Bread

Ingredients
– 1 1/2 cups chopped, pitted dates
– 1 1/2 cups boiling water
– 1/2 cup brown sugar
– 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
– 1 egg
– 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 teaspoon baking soda
– 1/2 teaspoon salt

  1. 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
  2. In a small saucepan bring water to boil. Stir in dates. Remove from heat and let cool until lukewarm.
  3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place brown sugar and butter in mixer bowl; cream until blended. Add egg and beat until smooth. Add date/water mixture, and beat until blended.
  4. In another bowl, combine flour, salt, and soda. Stir wet ingredients into flour mixture, stirring just until blended. Do not overbeat; batter should be lumpy. Fold in nuts.
  5. Pour batter into greased loaf pan. Bake until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean, usually around 60-75 minutes for large loaf, 45-60 minutes for mini-loaves.
  6. Remove from oven and cool for 15 minutes.
